What is the Black Physicians & Healthcare Network (BPHN)?

The Black Physicians & Healthcare Network (BPHN), a program of the National Center for Children and Families (NCCF), is a person-centered and culturally specific, healthcare, education, and outreach response which fosters integrated wellness and optimal health in Montgomery County’s Black community. The BPHN has a referral network of providers, health educators, and outreach professionals that are committed to serving the healthcare needs of Montgomery County, MD residents in a culturally-sensitive manner.

Montgomery County is reportedly one of the healthiest counties in the State of Maryland, however, health disparities continue to exist within the Black community. Factors that contribute to health disparities include racial difference in treatment of disease, delays in seeking diagnosis or treatment, overuse of emergency departments, and lack of healthcare resources.

We seek to eliminate these health disparities through providing culturally-specific health care referrals and resources, advocacy, education, and outreach.

Studies show that access to resources plays a significant role in health outcomes. Individuals who have access to primary care are much more likely to benefit from preventive services and routine screenings.
